'Corporate Responsibility: Strategies for Competitiveness and Shared Value', Washington, D.C., June 15-17, 2010
The principles of the Committee on Sustainable Assessment were presented by Daniele Giovannucci to an enthusiastic audience at the global conference of the International Financial Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
The conference brought together "global cross-section of companies and practitioners to share experiences and best practices in emerging markets" and focused on issues related to the future of corporate responsibility, the latest trends and tools for strategic decision-making around sustainability, and measuring return on environmental and social investments.
Conference participants included global firms such as the Dow Chemical Company, Wal-Mart, Rio Tinto, Exxon Mobil Corporation and Deloitte.
The COSA discussion centered around the necessary steps to create a better understanding of the impacts of CSR activities, and how to achieve credible measures of those impacts as a platform for practical discussion with all stakeholders on further advancing sustainability.
The Committee on Sustainability Assessment (COSA) is a project of the Sustainable Commodity Initiative (SCI) that has overseen the development of an independent measurement tool which analyses the social, environmental and economic impacts associated with the implementation of specific sustainability practices and programs.
